How to send a demo to a producer and get useful notes back

The way you send a demo decides whether you get useful notes back or silence. Here is what works.

1. Send one song, not ten

Producers and A&Rs are busy. Send the one song you most want help with, so it gets proper attention.

2. Use a link, not an attachment

A link that plays in the browser is easier than a file they have to download, and it never bounces for being too big. Do not make them create an account to listen.

3. Say what you want

"Any thoughts?" gets nothing back. Ask one clear question: is the chorus strong enough, does the second verse drag, is the key right for my voice.

4. Ask for notes at a time

Notes pinned to the exact second ("the drop at 1:43 feels late") are far more useful than a paragraph at the end.

5. Keep versions together

When you send v2, keep v1 on the same song so they can compare. Never make someone hunt for the latest mix.

6. Follow up once

If you hear nothing in a week, send one short follow-up. Then move on.
