An app for song ideas

A good song idea app lets you catch an idea fast, keeps every take of a song together, puts the lyrics beside the audio, and shows which ideas are nearly finished. Few apps do all of it. songdrafts is our product: it sorts the voice memos you already have into songs, and it does not record.

What a song idea app needs

• Fast capture. If it takes five taps, the idea is gone.
• Takes grouped by song. One idea, one place.
• Lyrics, key and tempo next to the recording.
• Stages. Idea, half written, finished demo.
• Sharing. Send one take without sending a pile of files.

Capture and keeping are two jobs

Many people catch ideas in Voice Memos or a notes app, which is quick, and then lose them in the list. Capturing is easy. Keeping and finishing is the hard part. See where to keep song ideas.

Where songdrafts fits

songdrafts is a board for the voice memos you already have. Drag them on, or import them on a phone, and every take of a song stacks on one card with its lyrics, key and tempo. Songs move across stages you can rename or add to, and a take can be shared as one link that plays in the browser, with comments pinned to the second. It works offline once installed. See the song board.

Common questions

What is the best app for song ideas?

It depends whether you want to record, write or keep. For keeping every take of a song together and seeing which are nearly done, a board like songdrafts is built for that.

How do I keep track of song ideas?

Give each song one name, put every take under it, note the key and tempo, and give it a stage. You can do it by hand or with a board.

Can I use Voice Memos for song ideas?

Yes for catching them. It gets hard to find things once there are hundreds.

Does songdrafts record?

No. It sorts recordings you already have.
