How to organise voice memos on Android
On Android, record in your phone's recorder app, copy the recordings somewhere safe, name each song once, and keep every take of it together. The recorder app differs by phone, so check where yours saves files. songdrafts runs in the Android browser and installs to the home screen, so you can import recordings and sort them into songs there.

1. Find where your recordings are
Android phones use different recorder apps, so the steps vary. Open your recorder app and look for a share or save option, or look in the Files app for a Recordings or Voice Recorder folder. Check your own phone's help pages if you cannot find it.
2. Back them up
Copy the recordings to a cloud drive or your computer. A phone that breaks or fills up should not take your songs with it. See how to back up voice memos.
3. Name the song, not the recording
A file called "Recording 212" says nothing. Name each song once and put every take under that name. See how to rename voice memos.
4. Keep every take together
Five versions of a chorus should sit in one place, in the order you made them. See how to pick the best take.
5. Sort by stage
Give each song a stage, such as idea, half written or finished demo, so you can see what to work on next.
Use songdrafts on Android
songdrafts is a web app. Open songdrafts.com in your Android browser and choose the install or Add to Home screen option. On a phone, use Import audio to bring recordings in. Every take of a song stacks on one card, with the lyrics, key and tempo on the same song. It works offline once installed. See how to install songdrafts.
