Lyric sheet template

Fill in the top, then write your words under the section names. The box uses a fixed-width font and keeps your spaces, so chords written above the words stay lined up. Copy it as text or print it. In songdrafts the lyrics box does the same on a computer.

How to use a lyric sheet

Keep one sheet per song. Mark every section (Verse 1, Chorus, Bridge) so you can see the shape at a glance. If you play, put the chord on the line above the word where it changes. When you change the words, change the sheet, so the latest version is the only version.

Tips for a clean sheet

Common questions

What goes on a lyric sheet?

The title, the key and tempo, the structure, and the words in order, with the section names marked. Many writers add chords above the words.

How do I line chords up over the words?

Use a plain, fixed-width font and spaces so each chord sits over the word it starts on. The template above is set up that way.

Is anything saved?

No. It works in your browser only and nothing is sent or stored. Copy or print it before you leave the page.

Why add the key and tempo to a lyric sheet?

Because a lyric on its own does not tell you how to sing it. Key and tempo make it playable by someone who was not in the room.

Keeping a song? songdrafts keeps the key, tempo and lyrics on every song, next to every take of it.
