How to sync voice memos with iCloud

Turn on iCloud for Voice Memos on every device, signed in to the same Apple ID. On iPhone open Settings, tap your name, tap iCloud, and turn on Voice Memos (tap See All if you do not see it). On a Mac open System Settings, click your name, click iCloud, and turn on Voice Memos. Give long recordings time to arrive.

Turn it on, iPhone

Open Settings, tap your name, tap iCloud, and find Voice Memos in the list of apps. Tap See All if it is not shown. Turn it on. New and existing memos start syncing once the device has an internet connection.

Turn it on, Mac

Open System Settings, click your name, click iCloud, and turn on Voice Memos (click See All if it is not shown). Open the Voice Memos app and your recordings will fill in.

If voice memos do not show up

Check the Apple ID. Every device must use the same one.
Check iCloud storage. Voice memos count towards it. If it is full, they may stop syncing.
Check the connection. Syncing needs internet, and long recordings are slow.
Wait. Large libraries can take a while the first time.
Restart the app or the device. Then check again.

What iCloud does not do

It does not show your memos as files in iCloud Drive. To put one there, use Share, then Save to Files.
It is not a full backup plan. A deleted memo is deleted on every synced device, apart from Recently Deleted.
It does not sort anything. All your recordings appear in one list.

After they sync, make them findable

Syncing gets your memos onto every device. It does not tell you which one is the chorus. In songdrafts you bring them in once, sort them into songs on a board, and stack every take of a song on one card. songdrafts makes its own copy, so your originals stay in Voice Memos.
