How to save voice memos to Google Drive

On an iPhone with the Google Drive app installed, open Voice Memos, tap the recording, tap the three dots, tap Share, then choose Drive and pick a folder. To upload several, tap Edit in Voice Memos and select them first. On a Mac, drag the memos into your Google Drive folder.

From an iPhone

1. Install the Google Drive app and sign in.
2. In Voice Memos tap the recording, tap the three dots, then Share.
3. Choose Drive from the share sheet (scroll the row of apps if you do not see it).
4. Pick a folder and upload. Exact labels can differ by app version.

Several at once

In the Voice Memos list tap Edit, tick the recordings, tap Share, then choose Drive. If Drive does not show for several files, save them to Files first, then upload from the Drive app.

From a Mac

Drag each memo out of Voice Memos onto your Desktop, then into the Google Drive folder (if you use Drive for desktop), or upload them at drive.google.com. See where to find voice memos on Mac.

What you get

Voice memos are .m4a files. Drive stores them as normal audio files. They are a copy: the memo stays in Voice Memos.

Name them before you upload

Common questions

Can I save voice memos directly to Google Drive?

Yes, from the iPhone share sheet if the Google Drive app is installed, or by dragging them into your Drive folder on a Mac.

Does saving to Drive remove the memo from my phone?

No. It is a copy.

.m4a audio files.

Can I upload all my voice memos at once?

Select several with Edit, then share. If that fails, save to Files and upload from there.

Is Google Drive a good backup for voice memos?

It is a reasonable second copy. Keep another copy elsewhere for anything important.
