Voice Memos questions: how long can it record, why is it not working, and more
The questions songwriters ask most about Apple's Voice Memos app, answered plainly.
1. How long can Voice Memos record?
There is no fixed time limit on iPhone. A recording can keep going as long as you have storage space and battery. Long recordings use a lot of space, especially with Lossless audio quality on.
2. Why is my Voice Memos not working?
Check Voice Memos has microphone access (Settings, Privacy and Security, Microphone), check you have free storage, close and reopen the app, restart the phone, and update iOS. If memos are missing on another device, check iCloud is on for Voice Memos on both.
3. Why did my voice memo disappear?
Look in Recently Deleted inside the app first. Memos stay there for a while before they are gone for good. If you use iCloud, a memo deleted on one device is deleted on all of them.
4. Can I loop a voice memo?
Not in the Voice Memos app. To loop a section while you learn or write, use a player or songwriting app that can repeat a part.
5. Where do voice memos go on a Mac?
With iCloud on for Voice Memos, they appear in the Voice Memos app on your Mac. You can drag them out as audio files.
6. How do I keep my song ideas safe?
Turn on iCloud for Voice Memos, name your memos as you go, and keep a copy of the ones that matter somewhere else, so one deleted memo never means a lost song.
Questions
Is there a time limit on iPhone voice memos?
No fixed limit. Storage and battery are the only limits.
Do voice memos lose quality?
Compressed audio quality saves space and is fine for ideas. Lossless keeps full quality but uses much more space.
